Collagen/Hyaluronic Acid

ApothéCure’s formulation team has developed a very special anti-aging drink mix that contains collagen and hyaluronic acid as its main ingredients. Vitamin C, Glucosamine Sulfate and Calcium Hydroxyapatite have also been added to increase the overall effectiveness of this unique blend. In addition, this formula is sugar-free and sweetened with Xylitol, as opposed to sweeteners, such as Aspartame, Splenda or Acesulfame K. Growth Factors

Human skin is a living organ which performs dynamic activities such as growth, repair and maintenance. Even though our skin requires growth factors as key modulators of skin cell metabolism, their expression level decreases with aging process which is resulted in slow cell renewal and a defected skin defense system. If exogenous growth factors are put into the aged skin, those factors can improve skin elasticity and plasticity via accelerated rejuvenating process.

Growth factor is sometimes used interchangeably among scientists with the term cytokine. Historically, cytokines were associated with hematopoietic (blood forming) cells and immune system cells (e.g., lymphocytes and tissue cells from the spleen, thymus, and lymph nodes). For the circulatory system and bone marrow in which cells can occur in a liquid suspension and not bound up in solid tissue, it makes sense for them to communicate by soluble, circulating protein molecules. However, as different lines of research converged, it became clear that some of the same signaling proteins and the hematopoietic and immune systems used, were also being used by all sorts of other cells and tissues, during development and in the mature organism. While growth factor implies a positive effect on cell division, cytokine is a neutral term with respect to whether a molecule affects proliferation. In this sense, some cytokines can be growth factors, such as G-CSF and GM-CSF. However, some cytokines have an inhibitory effect on cell growth or proliferation. Yet others, such as Fas ligand are used as “death” signals; they cause target cells to undergo programmed cell death or apoptosis.

Hormones

How Does our Skin Age?

Genetic differences, hormonal changes, chronic sun exposure, wind, pollution...many more.

Peri and post-menopausal women start developing skin problems due to imbalances of the hormones: estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone/DHT, pregnenolone, T4 and T3, cortisol, insulin and growth hormone.

Menopause and Dry Skin
Imbalances of the 3 estrogens and T4 and T3 can produce changes such as: dry skin, increased wrinkles, fragile skin, loss of elasticity, looser skin (production of collagen is reduced) and paler skin (lack of estrogen reduces the number of blood vessels in the skin). Menopause also causes a reduction in the level of testosterone, but not as signifi cant a drop as in estrogen. Skin can retain too much
or too little water as well. We have found that combining natural hormone therapies with aesthetic medicine offers the best results.

Hormones and Acne
Hormones control the oil glands and we often see peri and post-menopausal women developing teenage male acne due to the lessening of estrogens, creating testosterone dominance, which can lead to acne. Insulin imbalance can lead to polycystic ovarian disease, which can often lead to acne. Acne remedies plus hormone balancing can help tremendously. Often acne is confused with Candida which is often a bump on the skin but it never cones to a head. Post menopausal insulin and cortisol imbalances can lead to carb cravings, which can cause increased yeast in the gut and then bumps on the face.

Hair and Hormones
Too much in the wrong places or too little in the right places! We know that DHT production is common in men, but it is also found in women with proper lab testing and needs to be addressed with topical and systemic approaches to reduce the DHT which kills the hair shaft. Post-menopausal thinning hair in women is becoming common. Too much T3 in the system, often caused from stress, lowered cortisol, elevated adrenalin will also cause hair to fall out. The phases of hair growth are Anagen(growth phase), Telogen(resting
phase) and Catagen(stops growing). Estrogen encourages the hair to stay in the growing phase, but after menopause the hair heads more toward the telogen phase and we hear women complaining of more hair falling out. Postmenopausal women may also notice more hair growth in the wrong places, which is a result of falling estrogen and more dominant testosterone.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
HRT has been used over the last 20 years to combat the signs of aging. HRT can promote a fuller-looking skin because the skin then becomes thicker with less loss of subcutaneous fat. Thinning and drying of vaginal surfaces is also minimized. This can also be achieved by using topical estrogen. The use of estrogen creams has been shown to maintain the elasticity and fullness of skin after menopause,
although at this time it is not used extensively because of concerns about side effects and the variability of absorption into the body.
The problem is that synthetic hormones and /or imbalanced hormones often cause more problems. Thus the emergence of “Natural” hormone therapy years ago was changed to BioIdentical Hormone therapy (BHRT), as the molecules were identical to the ones in humans. There are problems with this as BHRT does not always lead to Natural Hormone therapy, in other words, Mother Nature is not being followed and problems can occur. The popular Estradiol products (FDA approved) are often the only hormones prescribed in

Micro-Needling Steps
Average roller application will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

Step 1) Preperation
Thoroughly cleanse the application area.

Step 2) Apply Local Anesthetic
Apply local anesthetic as needed. We suggest a topical anesthetic containing benzocaine (20%), lidocaine (4%), tetracaine (2%), pramoxine HCI (1%). We have several blends and have found that BLT 20/10/10 and our new Lido/Tetracaine 27%/7% in
patented Lipoderm base work well.

Step 3) Apply Topical Solutions
Just before rolling.

Step 4) Treatment Roller
Divide the treatment area(s) into sub-divisions. Roll the same areas vertically and horizontally. Prevent lateral (sideways) movement
while rolling, do not over apply pressure.

Step 5) Re-apply Topical Solutions
Apply Solution liberally to the treated area.

Step 6) Relaxation
Apply a mask pack or other soothing application for relaxation.

Step 7) Postcare (Completion)
Nutrition and moisturizing management is recommended. Preventative sun-screens are also indicated.

Stretch Marks

How does topical vitamin C work?
To understand how topical vitamin C works, an understanding of the relationship between free radicals and antioxidants in the body is
necessary. Free radicals are molecules created as a byproduct of oxygen metabolism as our bodies create energy at the cellular level. Basically, the oxygen molecule loses one electron, turning it into a free radical. Free radical formation can also be augmented by external factors such as pollutants, sunlight, radiation, emotional stress, smoking, excessive alcohol, infection, and some drugs. Free radicals fl oat around the body looking for electrons to rebalance themselves. If necessary, free radicals steal electrons from normal healthy cells, this being the cause of various conditions ranging from accelerated aging to deadly cancers. Antioxidants protect healthy cells by donating an
electron to the free radicals. The body produces antioxidants naturally and we can also get them from the foods we eat and from supplements. Topical vitamin C has been shown to protect the skin from UV damage caused by prolonged sun exposure by reducing the amount of free radical formation and/or sunburn cells. Exposure to UV light has also shown to decrease the naturally occurring vitamin C levels in the skin, thus topical application of vitamin C restores these photoprotectant levels. Other studies also suggest that vitamin C may play a part in the collagen biosynthetic pathway by activating collagen metabolism and dermal synthesis of elastic fibers.

How Topical Vitamin C Works?

What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose veins and “spider veins.” Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution (generally sodium chloride) directly into the varicose vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view. Sclerotherapy is a well-proven procedure that has been in use since the 1930’s to treat varicose veins.

What are varicose veins & spider veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged veins that can be fl esh colored, dark purple or blue. They often look like cords and appear twisted and bulging. They are swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are commonly found on the backs of the calves or on the inside of the leg. During pregnancy, varicose veins called hemorrhoids can form in the vagina or around the anus. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller. They are often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider veins can be found on the legs and face. They can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.

What chemicals are used for Sclerotherapy?
The spider veins are destroyed by injecting a small amount of a chemical in the vein. The sclerosants are either hypertonic saline or sodium tetradecyl sulfate. The chemical irritates the small vein and causes it to undergo fi brosis and eventually disappear.

Symptoms Varicose Veins:

• Aching, heavy legs (often worse at night and after exercise)
• Ankle swelling
• A brownish-blue shiny skin discoloration around the veins
• Skin over the vein may become dry, itchy and thin, leading to eczema (venous eczema)
• The skin may darken (stasis dermatitis), because of the waste products building up in the legs
• Minor injuries to the area may bleed more than normal and/or take a long time to heal
• Rarely, there is a large amount of bleeding from a ruptured vein
• In some people the skin above the ankle may shrink because the fat underneath the skin becomes hard.
